British Columbia Institute of Technology International Student Entry Program
The International Student Entry Program (ISEP) at the British Columbia Institute of Technology provides training in reading, writing, speaking, and listening skills at all levels of English Proficiency. ISEP focuses on improving ESL students’ language by integrating English skills with business and technical contexts. ISEP also supports academic success by helping with cultural adjustment, studying specific topics, and developing critical skills
Program Goals
ISEP helps international students succeed in BCIT programs. Attending 25 hours of English classes per week per 7 weeks, provides ESL students with more English development than (TOEFL) or IELTS alone. ISEP also develops confidence in English language skills while teaching learners how to succeed in North American post-secondary programs.
Tuition Fees
Tuition per level is CAD $2453.00 (per 7 weeks term), plus BCIT ID card, student association and building fees
- Student Association and Capital Levy Fees: CAD $13.43 per course per term
- Building Fee: up to CAD $61.20 per year (prorated based on number of courses registered)
- One card fee: CAD $7.50 per year (prorated)
There is an additional CAD $35.00 fee for the ISEP placement test.
British Columbia Institute of Technology ISEP Plus Program
ISEP Plus applicants have formally declared their intent to continue their studies in a BCIT diploma (or other credential) upon successful completion of the required English level in BCIT‘s International Student Entry Program (ISEP).
ISEP Plus applicants receive a letter of acceptance which outlines their intended study pathway at BCIT:
- Acceptance to ISEP
- Conditional Acceptance to a BCIT follow-up program
Acceptance to the follow-up program is based on the following:
- Successful completion of the required ISEP level/grade (varies by program)
- Meeting all of the program entrance requirements
- Seat availability
- Valid study permit
- Department review/competitive entry*
* Some programs have a competitive entry model where the department chooses the best qualified applicants. When a competitive entry program lists minimum and preferred grades, it is strongly recommended that applicants meet the preferred grades in order to be considered competitive. Please refer to the BCIT website to find out if this is applicable for your program.
How does it work?
Once you start ISEP Level 5*, you will have an opportunity to confirm your follow-up program before your application is forwarded to BCIT Admissions. If you meet all of the entrance requirements (as outlined above) except for English, you can receive conditional acceptance to the follow-up program while completing your ISEP studies. To obtain full acceptance, you must successfully complete the required ISEP level/grade prior to the follow-up program start date.
* Automotive Service Technician (AST), Aircraft Maintenance Engineer-Category M (AME-M), Electronics Technician Common Core (ETCC), Technology Entry (TE) and Auto Collision ISEP Plus applications will be transferred for review by BCIT Admissions when the applicant starts ISEP Level 4.
What is the advantage?
If you meet the requirements for conditional acceptance (which also includes a successful department review for competitive programs) into the follow-up program as an ISEP Plus applicant, a seat will be reserved for you while you are completing your final one or two terms of ISEP.
