Express Entry

On January 2015 Citizenship and Immigration Canada (CIC)  launched the Express Entry (EE) system to electronically accept and manage applications for Canadian Permanent Residence under the Federal Skilled Workers Program (FSWP), Federal Skilled Trades Program (FSTP), and the Canadian Experience Class (CEC).

Canadian employers will also use the Express Entry system to search an select potential employees to fulfill vacancies and  labour shortages, similarly to using current job banks and employment pools.

The Express Entry will be a two-step system for those seeking to apply for Canadian permanent residence under one of the system’s programs:

  1. Step 1.- Candidates will register with CIC using the EE system and complete their profile.
  2. Step 2.- Candidates selected from the pool by CIC will be issued an Invitation to Apply (ITA) and invited to submit online a complete Application for Permanent Residence. The selected candidates will have 60 days to submit the complete application package.

Those who receive an invitation have 60 days to apply. Candidates who are issued an ITA have three options:

  1. They can respond to the ITA;
  2. They can ignore it (in which case they are removed from the Express Entry pool); or,
  3. They can reject it, in which case they remain in the pool.

To be able to register with the Express Entry (EE) system the candidate will firs have to have and include:

  • The results of the language tests that demonstrate the applicant’s language ability (minimum CLB of 7)  in one of the 2 official languages in Canada (English and French)
  • Complete the Educational Credential Assessment (ECA) of all her/his post-secondary education
  • Outline of the applicant’s work experience (NOC 0, A, or B occupations), and
  • Register with the Canadian Job Bank
